It was Katia's 20th birthday and she was looking forward to seeing her friends. They were meeting at Mamma Mia's, her favourite Italian restaurant, for a special birthday dinner. Katia was excited and got to the restaurant at exactly 7 o'clock , the time they had arranged to meet. She looked around for a familiar face, but no one had arrived yet. So she decided to wait outside and stood patiently in the warm evening sunshine.

The restaurant quickly filled up with customers, but none of them were Katia's friends. 'Where are they?' she thought. At half past seven she was still waiting, so she called her best friend Isa. 'Why doesn't she answer her phone?' Katia asked herself. Then she called Jonty,
Alex and Yoko, but they didn't answer either. 'What's going on?' she wondered.

At 8 o'clock Katia went home. She thought her friends had forgotten her birthday and she felt lonely and miserable. She opened the front door and walked into the dark house. The living room door was closed. 'How strange,' she thought because she always left it open. Nervously, she opened the door. Suddenly the lights went on and all her friends jumped up and shouted 'Surprise!' So they hadn't forgotten and in the end it was the best birthday ever.

Before dawn, Bandung Bondowoso had only five temples to build. Roro Jonggrang panicked because she knew he would complete the task.

Suddenly, Roro Jonggrang had an idea. She called all the women and asked them to pound rice. She also asked them to burn a lot of wood at the side of the kingdom. Nowadays, mobile phone users increase dramatically. Mobile phone is not only used for calling and texting but also for taking pictures, recording videos, playing games, accessing the internet, and much more. These days, mobile phones are not only used by adults but also used by teenagers and students. However, should students be allowed to bring mobile phones to school?

Many schools do not allow their students to bring mobile phones to school. It is very reasonable, because bringing mobile phones to school potentially disrupt the learning process. A lot of students use mobile phone irresponsibly. Students often use mobile phone to communicate with their friends during the class. They also like to take pictures with their friends in the class as well. Those can make the students less concentrated during the teaching learning process.

In addition to that, mobile phones also provide a large temptation for the students to cheat in a test. They can ask their friends for the answers to the test items. Students can also send text messages quietly without being noticed by the teacher. This should not happen at schools because schools should educate their students to be honest and fair.

Therefore, based on the proposed arguments, schools should ban their students from bringing mobile phones to school due to the potential disruptions the phones may have in the teaching and learning process and the possibility of cheating activities the students may act with their phones. However, in case of an emergency and students need a call for help, schools should provide easy access to the telephone.

Thrifting, or shopping at secondhand stores, has become a popular trend among many high school students. However, some students are unsure whether thrifting is a good option for them. While it can be a fun and affordable way to shop, there are also some concerns that come with it. Let’s look at both the positive and negative aspects of thrifting for high school students.

One of the main reasons high school students love thrifting is because it is cheaper than shopping at regular stores. Many students don’t have a lot of money, and secondhand stores offer clothes, books, and accessories at much lower prices. Thrifting helps students save money and buy more for less.

Thrifting is also better for the environment. When you buy secondhand, you help reduce waste because you are reusing things instead of throwing them away. This is important because producing new clothes and products uses a lot of resources and energy. By shopping at thrift stores, students can make a positive impact on the planet.

Furthermore, thrift stores often have one-of-a-kind items that you can't find in regular stores. If you like to be creative with your fashion or are looking for something different, thrifting can be a great way to find special clothes, accessories, or books that are not available anywhere else.

Apart from that, many thrift stores are run by charities. When you buy something from these stores, the money often goes to help people in need, such as supporting hospitals, schools, or homeless shelters. Thrifting is a way to help the community while shopping.

On the other hand, one downside of thrifting is that the selection of items is not always as big as in regular stores. The clothes or products you are looking for may not always be available in your size or style. Thrift stores may not have everything you need, which can be frustrating if you are looking for something specific.

Another drawback of thrifting is that the items in thrift stores may not be in the best condition. Clothes might have tears, stains, or missing buttons. Some products may also be old or damaged. Even though some items are still good, it's important to carefully check them before buying.

Finally, thrifting can take a lot of time. Unlike shopping in regular stores, where everything is organized and easy to find, thrift stores can be messy and disorganized. It may take longer to look through everything and find something you like. For students with busy schedules, this can be a challenge.

In conclusion, thrifting has both benefits and drawbacks for high school students. On the positive side, it is affordable, eco-friendly, and a way to find unique items while supporting charities. On the negative side, it can be time-consuming, and the quality or selection may not always meet your needs. Ultimately, whether or not thrifting is a good choice depends on what you’re looking for and how much time you are willing to spend. If you enjoy the process and the benefits, thrifting can be a great option.

Indonesian bus driver to be first to work under new Japan visa status

Okayama, Japan

Sun, February 23, 2025

An Indonesian man will be the first to take advantage of Japan extending the scope of its specified skilled worker visa to encompass the road transportation sector when he begins work as a bus driver in fiscal year of 2025.

Iyus, 40, who came to Japan in 2013, attended a language school and worked at a travel agency before joining Tokyo-based Nikko Kanko Bus Co.

He passed a test demonstrating professional and communication skills in December and is expected to start work in fiscal 2025 starting in April. Having obtained the required large motor vehicle license, he is on course to take a role as a tour bus driver.

"I wanted to be a bus driver. It feels like a dream," he told a press conference in Okayama earlier in February held to mark his achievement. "I want to introduce tourist spots in Japan and visit there together."

Securing bus drivers is becoming a major challenge for Japan, with the government projecting a shortage of around 22,000 workers in 2029. The nation's falling birthrate and a legal revision last year that limited drivers' working hours are contributing to the problem.

Amid the increased need for foreign labor, the Cabinet decided last March to expand the scope of the Specified Skilled Worker No. 1 visa to accept foreign workers in four additional industries, covering road and railway transportation as well as the forestry and timber sectors.Japan plans to admit up to 24,500 drivers of buses, trucks and taxis in the five years from fiscal 2024 under the visa, which enables them to stay in Japan for up to five years.

Poem

Spring

In the early part of spring
You will hear, many bird sing
They are just letting, the rest of us know
Winter is over, spring melted the snow

You will notice, a beautiful scene
The trees will slowly, begin to turn green
Chipmunks and bunnies will come out and play
Bears will no longer, sleep during the day

It's exciting, when spring finally arrives
Bees will make honey, inside their hives
So much to do, so much to see
Insects and animals are happy and free
